  • Windows

Issue Details

  • When trying to open a LabVIEW project an Access Violation is thrown when loading the Report Generation Toolkit library woth this error code : Access Violation (0xC0000005)
  • The Excel and Word specific VIs aren't available to drag from the functions pallet.
  • The Report Generation Toolkit's Dynamic VIs throw the same Access Violation when trying to open them from file explorer. File Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2018\vi.lib\addons\_office\_exclsub.llb\_Excel Dynamic_VIs.vi
  • Reinstalling Report Generation Toolkit or LabVIEW doesn't get rid of the error and Report Generation Toolkit  VIs still cannot be dragged into your project or opened from file explorer.
  • The Steps taken in RGT VIs Broken and RGT Broken Even After Re-Install do not solve the issue.

Solution

If the two KBs mentioned in the Issue section do not solve your issue then this is likely an issue with the install of Excel and not something with LabVIEW and Report Generation Toolkit.
The following steps need to be taken in order to get a new install of MS Office or the standalone Word and Excel programs:
  1. Uninstall LabVIEW and all the RGT addon with it.
  2. Re-install Excel and Word.
  3. Re-install LabVIEW. If RGT wasn't installed with it make sure you install it.
Once you've re-installed the Microsoft programs used by the Report Generation Toolkit, check if the _Excel Dynamic VIs.vi can be opened without throwing an Access Violation. It should be able to open if the original problem had to do with the original install of Excel and Word.

Additional Information

This issue was seen with a computer imaged with a fully functioning LabVIEW 2018 and MS Office 2016. Both sets of software would work fine independently but the LabVIEW RGT wouldn't link properly with the VIs.
