How to Identify COM Ports on a cRIO

Updated Oct 25, 2018

Issue Details

I'm trying to set up a ModBus I/O Server on my cRIO device and need to identify which COM port is utilised by the RS232 Standard.

Solution

COM ports can be identified in NI MAX by looking under a systems "Devices and Interfaces":
  1. Navigate to your device in NI MAX
  2. Open the drop-down menu marked "Devices and Interfaces"
  3. Look through your Interfaces until you find the correct port. A description of the port and the COM port which it is bound to will be shown in the settings window.
In the below example we can see the RS-232 port a cRIO-9014. It is bound to COM1.
