Issue Details

I have a GigE camera connected to a PCIe NI framegrabber, and I am using Power over Ethernet (POE) to power my camera. I am successfully able to communicate with the camera in NI Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).
However, if my computer goes into sleep/low-power mode, I encounter a timeout in MAX, LabVIEW, or  the camera manufacturer's software, and I have to disconnect/reconnect to the camera to reestablish communication.

How can I avoid this timeout error if my computer goes to low-power mode?

This likely is occurring because of Sleep and Power settings on your machine.

To address this behavior:
  1. Navigate to the Control Panel >> System and Security >> Power Options
  2. On the Choose or customer a power plan, you will have power plan selected (Balanced or Power Saver). For whichever plan you are using, click on Change plan settings
  3. Select Change advanced power settings to open the advanced settings for Power Options.
  4. Scroll through the list of power plans to find the PCI Express settings. Expand the PCI Express >> Link State Power Management settings.
  5. In the Setting drop down menu, select Moderate Power Savings
    • If the setting was originally set to Off, the computer was cutting power to the PCIe card when the computer went to sleep which causes the camera timeout.
