Issue Details

I am trying to communicate with my 3rd party hardware with the VISA communication protocol in LabVIEW. When I try to select the VISA resource name on a VISA VI (such as VISA Open), I am not able to see the list of connected resources. However, I am able to see all my connected devices in NI-MAX and communicate with them.

Solution

First, ensure the NI-VISA driver is installed, and that the version of this driver is compatible with your version of LabVIEW and also compatible with your operating system. NI-VISA can be downloaded from the NI website.

If the issue persists once the correct driver is installed, the following detail some possible workarounds to this issue:
  1. Manually enter in the VISA resource name. The VISA resource name can be found in NI-MAX under Devices and Interfaces. Click on the 3rd party device and the VISA resource name will be located in the Settings tab.
  2. Programmatically retrieve the VISA resource in LabVIEW with the VISA Find Resource VI or with the VISA property node.
