mxrmcfg.dll Error When Opening Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)

Issue Details

I have NI software installed on my system including the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). When I try to open NI MAX I receive the following message: NI MAX could not launch because the required library mxrmcfg.dll failed to load.
 
 
NI MAX then does not open when I click the OK button. How can I get NI MAX working correctly?

Solution

This behavior is usually caused when you install a previous version of NI software that contains NI MAX which is of different version compared to the one already present in the system. You can try the following steps to resolve this issue :
  • Download the corresponding version of NI System Configuration and perform a force reinstall with setup.exe. For example, if you have NI MAX 14.5 version currently installed on your system, you can download the same version of NI System Configuration and perform force reinstallation.
  • If the first step does not resolve your issue, download and install the latest NI System Configuration compatible with your operating system. Go through the release notes for the corresponding version of NI System Configuration to confirm if your operating system supports the same.
  • If you are using NI MAX 17.0 and have DAQmx 17.0 installed, follow the steps listed in NI Max Failed to Load Mxrmcfg.dll article.
