Issue Details

I am using a PXI(e) chassis and controller with a cDAQ chassis, connected via USB, to gather data, and want to share a start trigger between the two.

Solution

To route a start trigger, or any timing signal, you will need to use a PXI(e) timing card and wire the chosen output channel to one of the PFI lines on the cDAQ chassis. This will then behave in the same fashion as any other exported/imported trigger.

Additional Information

It is worth noting that it is not possible to use the USB cable that connects the cDAQ to the PXI(e) for this purpose, as the signal would need to pass through the operating system on the controller, where the signal would be subject to the jitter and skew of a software timing.
