My Installed Toolkit Does Not Show Up in LabVIEW

Updated May 27, 2022

Reported In

Software

  • LabVIEW

Driver

  • NI-DAQmx
  • NI-Industrial Communications for Ethernet/IP

Issue Details

  • I have installed a module/toolkit/driver for LabVIEW and confirmed in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) that it has installed successfully. However, I cannot see the corresponding functions in the functions palette inside of my LabVIEW VI. Why could that be?
  • My module/toolkit/driver has been installed successfully, but LabVIEW does not show them in the functions palette. Moreover, if I search for the VIs in the LabVIEW search bar, quick drop, or the computer's files; I don't find them installed.

Solution

  1. Make sure to install LabVIEW before any toolkits or drivers. Review the document Installation Order for Multiple NI Software Products for more information.
  2. Ensure your toolkit is compatible with the bitness (ie, 32-bit vs 64-bit) of LabVIEW you are using: LabVIEW 32-Bit vs. 64-Bit Applications FAQ
  3. Check that you have the correct version of the module/toolkit/driver installed. (For example: NI-DAQmx 17.6 is just compatible with LabVIEW 2014-2017). You can find the module/toolkit/driver compatibility with your development system in its readme file.
  4. Verify from the NI License Manager that the tookit or driver is licensed and activated properly. If the software was in an evaluation state and the trial period has expired then you won't be able to access the functions after that point until the software becomes licensed again.
  5. Possibly the installation of the toolkit has become corrupted and needs repair. On a Windows machine, follow the steps listed in Repair Software In NI Package Manager (NIPM) to repair the software.
