Issue Details

I have a memory constrained Windows PC. What is the minimum set of Windows NI services needed to run NI Measurement and Automation Explorer (NI MAX)?

Solution

These are the services needs for NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) to work:
  • NI Configuration Manager
  • NI Domain Service
  • NI mDNS Responder Service
  • NI Network Discovery
  • NI PSP Service Locator
  • NI Service Locator
  • NI Time Synchronization

Additional Information

The documentation page Windows Services Installed by a Specific NI Software Product, Spring 2016 contains detailed lists of the services installed by each NI software installer.

The minimum service set necessary for running a particular application implemented in LabVIEW is very difficult to determine. Each service is affecting different parts of the software on a machine, and the services required are dependent on which functions are used in the scope of the application.

All NI services are essential to the functionality of NI software. Each service has its own responsibility. Disabling one or several of them can have negative consequences. They should be running as they are configured during installation.
