Unable to Find the EtherCAT Slave XML File On My PC

Issue Details

  • I am looking for the EtherCAT configuration file for my EtherCAT slave device. Where is this XML file located on my PC?
  • I want to update the EtherCAT slave list in LabVIEW which is shown below:

Solution

The XML file can be located in one of these folders:

C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW XXXX\resource\Framework\Providers\indcomecat\DD where XXXX is the LabVIEW version you're using
C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\IndComECAT\DD

Deleting the XML file located in one of the folders above and restarting LabVIEW will update the EtherCAT slave list.

Additional Information

The EtherCAT XML files contain configuration data for EtherCAT communication. In LabVIEW 2013 SP1 the XML file moved so that it can be version-dependent (i.e., have different XML files for different versions).

If you are using an NI EtherCAT Slave and the file is not present in the folder after importing, the NI-Industrial Communications for EtherCAT driver may be corrupted. Reinstall the driver to resolve this.
