Can I Change the Operating System of My cDAQ-913X?

Hardware

  • CompactDAQ Controller

Operating System

  • Windows Embedded Standard (WES)
  • NI Linux Real-Time

Issue Details

I have a cDAQ-913X running either Windows Embedded or NI Linux Real-Time. I want to change over to the other OS. Is this possible?

Solution

Unfortunately, changing the operating system on the embedded CompactDAQ controller is not a supported process.

Additional Information

In addition to having to purchase a real-time license in the case of going from Windows to Linux RT, there are also the following concerns:
  1. The Serial Number of the cDAQ will correspond to the original OS. If the chassis needs to be factory-reset, it will revert back to the original OS.
  2. If the device should fail during the installation of the alternate OS, NI will not be able to offer support in recovering the device.
  3. NI suggests migrating to the CompactRIO platform in case you need a C series chassis with Linux RT.
