Issue Details

I am using a device supported both in LabVIEW Communications and LabVIEW FPGA. I am interested in developing my FPGA in LabVIEW Communications but then using the resulting bitfile to communicate with a user interface (UI) and logic that I have written in LabVIEW. Can I do this?

Solution

The bitfile generated with LabVIEW Communications is compatible with LabVIEW. The only caveat is that LabVIEW Communications introduces complex types for controls and indicators. If you are using one of these complex controls and/or indicators then it will not work with the LabVIEW software. If you try to interface between the two using these controls and indicators then those controls and indicators will not be available on the host interface in LabVIEW.

It is also possible to use Peer-to-Peer (P2P) endpoints from a LabVIEW Communications bitfile to communicate with LabVIEW.

Note: This will only work with LabVIEW 2013 or newer.
