Issue Details

Based on the information in Choosing a PXI Synchronization Technology there is a "1588 Software - On-board Ethernet" type of synchronization. What hardware and software platforms do I need in order to apply that type of synchronization?

1588 software synchronization is done by the NI-TimeSync software synchronization plug-in.

NI-TimeSync requires:
  • LabVIEW Real-Time compatible hardware
  • LabVIEW Real-Time Module 2009 SP1 or later.

Additional Information

1588 Software On-board Ethernet synchronization uses the IEEE 1588-2008 standard to synchronize the current time between systems with a real-time operating system (Phar Lap, VxWorks, NI Linux Real-Time) in an Ethernet network. This is done with the NI-TimeSync plug-in.

1588 hardware synchronization achieves a higher level of synchronization than 1588 software.

If you need to synchronize system time between several targets, including a target with Windows OS installed, then using SNTP network server or GPS synchronization is recommended.
