Issue Details

Based on Choosing a PXI Synchronization Technology white paper there is a "1588 software - On-board Ethernet" type of synchronization. What requirements are for my hardware and software platforms in order to apply that type of synchronization?

1588 software synchronization is done by NI-TimeSync software synchronization plug-in.
NI-TimeSync requires:
  • LabVIEW Real-Time target hardware
  • LabVIEW Real-Time Module 2009 SP1 or later.

Additional Information

1588 software - On-board Ethernet is a syncronization which uses the IEEE 1588-2008 standard to synchronize the current time between systems with a real-time operating system (Phar Lap, VxWork, NI Linux Real-Time) in a common Ethernet network. This is done with NI-TimeSync software synchronization plug-in.

1588 hardware synchronization differs from 1588 software synchronization with that, 1588 hardware achieves a higher level of synchronization then 1588 software.

If you need to syncronize system time between several targets including target with Windows OS installed, then SNTP network server or GPS solution is recommended.
