Error 8 When Installing Packages from VI Package Manager

Issue Details

  • I'm getting error 8 when trying to install a package with the VI Package Manager (VIPM), with the error description seen below:
Error Message: VIPM could not install the package
Error Code: 8

  • I'm trying to install a toolkit in VIPM for an old LabVIEW version, but I receive the error below. How do I fix this?
Results of the Last Action - VIPM could not install the package ni_lib_gxml-1.4.2.8
  • I get error 8 when trying to install Live HDF toolkit using VIPM.

Solution

If you see this error when installing a package, open the VI Package Manager with Administrator privileges. 

Follow the steps below to run VI Package Manager with Administrator rights:
  1. Navigate on your system to C:\Program Files (x86)\JKI\VI Package Manager​.
  2. Right-Click the VI Package Manager application and select Run as administrator.
  3. Reinstall the package you were installing before, by uninstalling and installing it again.

Additional Information

This is an issue commonly related to permission errors in Windows and can occur even if you are working with a user with default administrative privileges on the computer.
