Issue Details

Using an Ad Hoc connection from my NI cDAQ-9191 to my computer results in a very limited range. Why is this and what can I do to increase the range?

Solution

Ad Hoc connections are designed for short distances and low data throughput, so this is a known limitation of Ad Hoc. Windows says devices need to be within 30 feet of each other,  Refer to Figure 1.

It is recommended to have a router or access point to connect devices at higher distances. Even USB powered mobile routers will likely offer greater connection distances than Ad Hoc connections.
