What Link does a cDAQ-9191 Prefer when both Wireless and Wired are Connected

I have a cDAQ-9191 connected to my Ethernet network and my wireless network. Which link does it prefer?

Solution

This KnowledgeBase article is not intended to be instructions for setting up a cDAQ -9191 chassis. Please see the quick start guide in the related links section for instructions on setting up your cDAQ-9191 chassis.

The cDAQ-9191 link preference is determined by how it was connected. See the following two example cases to determine which link the cDAQ-9191 will prefer.

Case 1: 
  1. Discover the device via a wired connection in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).
  2. Configure the wireless settings for the chassis by selecting the Network Settings tab in MAX.
  3. Click Save.
Result: The WIRED link is preferred.

Case 2: 
  1. Discover the device via a wired connection in MAX.
  2. Configure the wireless settings for the chassis by selecting the Network Settings tab in MAX.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Unplug the Ethernet cable from the cDAQ-9191 chassis.
  5. Right-click on the NI cDAQ-9191 device under Devices and Interfaces and select Self-Test .
  6. Plug the Ethernet cable back in to the cDAQ-9191 chassis.
Result: The WIRELESS link is preferred.
 

Additional Information

To revert the cDAQ-9191 to preferring the WIRED connection, change the Wireless Mode in the Network Settings tab to Disabled.
