Extending Functionality of a Connector Pane when Using a Template in LabVIEW

Issue Details

I am using the "Open VI Reference" function with a pre-loaded template and want to extend functionality on my connector pane; however I still want to use a template that is already linked without breaking anything





 

Solution

Unfortunately, when adding functionality to a connector pane while using a template, the template must be changed as well.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Find the "Open VI Reference" VI on the Block Diagram
  2. There should be a constant coming from "type specifier VI refnum" connector for the "Open VI Reference"
    1. If there is not a constant, right click the connector point go to Create > Constant
    2. This constant should be the 'template'
  3. To get a new template, drag the SubVI into that constant to change the template to a newer one
It should look similar to the picture below:
Note: In order for Open VI Reference to work, the "vi path" input wire must be connected in order for the function to work
