Issue Details

I am using NI Volume License Manager (NI VLM) 3.1 and I enable option Automatically send VLA Log to National Instruments under Tools » Preferences » General to automatically send the VLA Log to NI, as necessary.

Which protocol and port are used to send the VLA Log to National Instruments? I need these information to properly configure the firewall, opening the specific port used.

Solution

In order to send the VLA Log file to National Instruments, NI VLM uses HTTPS protocol on port 443. The data contained in the log is the compliance and usage data for the volume license server.
This port is not configurable, thus it should be unblocked in the firewall in order to allow communication to be successful.

Additional Information

If it is not possible to send VLA Log automatically through Internet connection, you can also save the VLA Log to send it later by following these steps:
  1. Select Tools » Send VLA Log to launch VLA Log Wizard
  2. On the second page of the wizard, select Save VLA Log to send it later manually
  3. Click Save.
  4. Select a location to store the file and click Save.
  5. Contact National Instruments at agreements@ni.com to send your VLA Log to National Instruments later.
