Issue Details

I am using a MXIe architecture, having a PCIe-8361 installed in my computer and connected to a PXI-8360 in a PXI chassis.
I would need to be able to shut down (or reboot) my computer without shutting down the PXI chassis. However, if the PXI chassis is still powered on, the computer cannot complete shut down. In order to be able to correctly shut down the PC and then reboot it, I need to shut down the PXI chassis too.

Is this expected? Is it possible to reboot the computer leaving the PXI chassis on when they are connected through MXIe?

Solution

It should be possible to simply reboot the computer leaving the PXI chassis on. If this is not possible on your system, you could try to install MXI-Express BIOS Compatibility Software as described in the troubleshooting guide.
Before installing the software, please refer to the release notes.

If the problem is not solved after this procedure, please contact National Instruments Technical Support.

Additional Information

In general, the supported sequence to correctly reboot a MXI system is as follows:
1. Shut down and power off the PC.
2. Power off the PXI chassis.
3. Add or remove modules.
4. Power on the PXI chassis.
5. Power on the PC.
