Updated Jan 14, 2019

Hardware

  • GPIB-USB-HS
  • GPIB-USB-HS+

Software

  • Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)

Driver

  • NI-488.2

Issue Details

  • I built an application with LabVIEW and created an Installer including the NI-488.2. I installed the application in my target computer and both, the application and NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) works fine. I have checked the device manager and my NI-GPIB-USB-HS shows correctly under NI GPIB Interfaces but there is no option to scan for instruments or find my instruments in NI-MAX.
  • I've installed a GPIB card and I can self-test and restart the card but there is no button to Scan for Instruments in NI-MAX.
What can I do?

Solution

Follow the steps below to resolve this issue:
1. Ensure you installed the full NI-488.2 driver and not just the NI-488.2 Runtime. The Scan for Instruments feature in NI-MAX is only available with the full featured NI-488.2 driver.

2. If you installed the driver make sure you download the full version or add the "NI-488.2 Application Development Support" to your application installer. (To do so, go to the additional installer in the Installer properties, unchecked the "Automatically select recommended installers" and the "Only display runtime installers" to display this option.)

3.  Force reinstall the NI-488.2 driver to fix any software corruption.
