Issue Details

My cRIO keeps disconnecting from my PC when connected by USB. I can't ping it or see it in NI MAX. The only way to alleviate the issue is by unplugging the USB cable and by plugging it back in. How do I fix this?

Solution

The cRIO may be disconnecting for a variety of reasons. The following steps can help determine the root cause.

  • Try testing another USB cable.
  • Try using another USB port on your PC.
  • Try using another PC. Ideally, a PC that is not ruled by IT company policies. Most of the time, there are some IT policies configured in the host PC that cause this behavior. Contact your IT team to fix this if that is the case.
  • Update your drivers, BIOS, and OS. A bug could be causing your USB controller to disconnect from devices after a prolonged period of time.
  • Your USB port may be entering into a power save mode. You can follow the steps in USB Device Disconnects and Reconnects Periodically on Windows PC to see your computer's settings.
