Issue Details

I am attempting to install software on my NI real-time target, but it hangs at base.tar and times out. How can I overcome this error?

Solution

This error has been solved using one of the procedures listed below:
  • This behavior is generally caused by firewalls, antivirus software, or other services blocking the transfer of necessary files for the Real-Time Target software install.
    • Ensure that any firewall (including network-based) or antivirus software on the computer grants access to NI software.
    • If your computer has any services that could interfere with file transfers, consider disabling those services as a test while attempting to install software to the Real-Time Target.
    • This can also be caused by a file transfer issue due to the size of the base.tar file that is sent via WebDAV. Increasing the WebDAV file transfer size in Windows  could aid in this scenario.
    • Try installing software from another computer that is not on the same network, ensuring that corporate or network firewalls are not interfering with this install.
    • Try installing software using the NI Linux Real-Time Offline Installation Support bundle .
  • Connect to the Real-Time Target directly via Ethernet or USB.
  • Format the Real-Time Target and try to install software again.
  • Reinstall or upgrade the software on your computer.
    • Find the necessary software and driver for your target in its device manual .
  • Check with you IT team for any protection software blocking large file transfers to unknown target and get both NI MAX and/or the RT target whitelisted.
