Ethernet Port is Not Working on FRC roboRIO

Issue Details

  • When I connect the roboRIO to my computer, I cannot connect to the device via the Ethernet port.
  • When I connect my roboRIO to the network via Ethernet, it does not work. The Ethernet status lights do not light up. 
  • When I connect my roboRIO to my computer using the Ethernet port, the Ethernet status lights sometimes show up, but the device is not assigned an IP address and I cannot communicate with the device.
  • When I connect my roboRIO to my computer via Ethernet, there is no communication and the lights on the Ethernet port light up solid, and remain solid even when unplugged. 


Try these troubleshooting steps to determine where the error is occurring in your set up:
  1. Try using a known-working Ethernet cable.
  2. Ensure that you are able to connect to the device via USB. If not, this may indicate a larger connection issue. 
  3. Try connecting to the roboRIO on another computer.
    • If this is successful, there may be an issue with the original computer networking or software.
  4. If you have another roboRIO, try connecting that roboRIO to the computer. 
    • If the other roboRIO can communicate over Ethernet, this means we should continue troubleshooting the roboRIO as the computer and/or the network work with other devices.
    • If other roboRIOs can connect over Ethernet to this computer, check to see if the software images and firmware versions match. If not, set the non-working roboRIO to the same version and firmware and the working roboRIO.
  5. Try connecting to a different, known-working network connection (i.e. another wall port or another port on the router you are using.)
  6. To eliminate any potential software issues, reimage the device from safe mode.
If you try the steps above and still have no connectivity with the roboRIO via the Ethernet port, contact NI for next steps.
