Issue Details

  • I have a Real-Time controller deployed in the field and it occasionally switches to safe mode.
  • I can't get my Real-Time controller out of Safe Mode, even after rebooting. What do I need to do?

Solution

There are many circumstances that could cause a Real-Time controller to boot into safe mode. The following steps may help to narrow down the cause of your controller rebooting into safe mode:
  • If the controller has DIP switches, make sure the safe mode switch is set to 'off'.
  • Reformat the controller  and reinstall the software.
  • Try different modules, as one of them, may cause unexpected behavior.
  • Try a different controller.
  • Monitor/check the power supply.
    • Provide a dedicated power supply to the controller.
  • Ensure that you have an internet connection.
  • Try to ping your RT controller from the command prompt.
  • Check, if the startup setting "Force Safe Mode" in NI MAX is disabled.
