Issue Details

My accelerometer needs to be more than 200 feet away from my data acquisition system.  What should I be concerned with when using long cables with accelerometers?

Accelerometer cables can generally run up to 200 feet while maintaining signal integrity.  Longer cables are common but can cause capacitive loading, which causes two major issues as far as accelerometers are concerned.
  1. Excitation from the measuring card can be attenuated, causing the onboard amplifier to clip.
  2. High frequency signal output from the accelerometer can be attenuated.

It's thus recommended to consult the sensor manufacturer for evaluation of long cables for your specific application.
