Difference Between Physical Devices, and Yellow Simulated Devices in NI MAX

Updated Nov 18, 2022

Reported In

Software

  • Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)

Driver

  • NI-DAQmx

Issue Details

  • I'm reading a perfect sine wave in my Analog Input channel, and not the signal I'm supposed to have.
  • Why are some devices showing yellows icons in NI Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX)?
  • My device shows Simulated as its Status in NI MAX.

Solution

You might be selecting a simulated device in NI MAX. The icon color of the NI-DAQ™mx simulated devices differs from real devices. Real devices are green and chassis are grey, while simulated devices and chassis are yellow.

Just as with any device, you can rename them or delete them, according to your development needs.
