Issue Details

I have a large project (10,000+ files). I use Perforce integrated into LabVIEW for source code management.

If Perforce is configured for the project, opening the project takes about 15 minutes as each of the files is checked. If Perforce is not configured, loading project takes about 30 seconds, and if I enable Perforce after the project is loaded, the scan takes about a minute.

How can I avoid the long launch time for my LabVIEW project when using Perforce?

Solution

Perforce integration in LabVIEW is great for small projects, but can cause larger projects to take long a time to launch due to the scanning of each file within the project.

There is not a known way to delay the Perforce status check automatically within the project. However, there are two workarounds that you can use to avoid the long process while opening the project:

  1. Do not use the Perforce integration in LabVIEW, and instead, use the stand-alone Perforce tool to manage the source code. All of the features that you have access to within LabVIEW are available in the stand-alone Perforce tool as well (check-in, check-out, view revisions, etc.).
  2. Disable Perforce while loading the project and enable it again when the project has loaded.
