Issue Details

I am trying to select [-1V, 1V] input range to increase the effective resolution of my measurements. The datasheet for the NI-9234 only lists [-5V ,5V] as an allowable range, but NI MAX allows me to set the max and minimum as 1V and -1V respectively. Why can I do this in NI MAX?

Solution

The NI-9234 can only select [-5V ,5V] as an allowable range. Although you are able to change the input scaling in NI MAX and LabVIEW to smaller ranges, there is no actual increased resolution. This scaling is only within software that lowers the range window to make the data look more presentable. Since the device doesn't have a programmable gain instrumentation amplifier (PGIA) to scale the signal, there is no increased resolution by changing the range.
