Cannot Create Output File When Downloading NI Software

Issue Details

I am trying to download NI software and encounter the following error: 

Cannot Create Output File: C://Program Files//National Instruments//<Software>//autorun.inf 

How do I download the software?

Solution

This issue is related to permissions. There are a couple of steps we can take to resolve the issue:
  • If the file type is a .exe, change the file name extension to a .zip and try to extract the folder
  • Change the path to extract the installed files, such as to your desktop (the default path will be in the downloads folder)
  • Try a different file zipping software, such as 7-Zip 
  • Test that you have permissions to zip/unzip files. You can do this by zipping a test file and then unzipping it
  • Disable any firewall and/or antivirus, and try to run the installer
  • Run the installer as an administrator

File compression software such as 7-Zip are not National Instruments products, and their use is not supported.
