Connect All Thunderbolt™ 3 Ports Used on PXIe-8301 to My Computer for Maximum Throughput

Issue Details

The PXIe-8301 has two Thunderbolt™ 3 ports. Do I need to connect both ports to my computer to obtain maximum throughput?

Solution

No, the second Thunderbolt™ 3 port on the PXIe-8301 is for connecting to Thunderbolt™ peripheral devices only.  The second port is used to connect multiple Thunderbolt™ 3 compatible devices to a PC connected on the first port in a daisy-chain topology.

Additional Information

You can add another Thunderbolt™ 3 or USB-C device to the system like a monitor or storage. Either port can be used to connect the PXIe-8301 to the host.

NI does not support using the additional Thunderbolt™ port on the PXIe-8301 to connect to another PXIe chassis. This has the protentional to use more PCIe buses than what's available on the Thunderbolt™ port, causing unexpected behavior.
