Synchronizing Multiple PXI-6674T Chassis

Issue Details

I have a PXIe-6674T for synchronization, but I'm using two chassis that are daisy-chained together. Do I need a second PXIe-6674T in the second chassis, or is all that controlled through the second chassis' controller card?

Solution

For multiple devices to be synchronized, they must share a clock signal. This clock signal can be shared on the PXI backplane (for modules within the same chassis), or through any CLK IN/CLK OUT connections on modules that are not within the same chassis.

A lot of our modular instruments (AWGs, digitizers, HSDIO cards, etc.) have a CLK IN, so they could connect to the 6674Ts CLK OUT. However, a much more robust setup would be having a 6674T in the other chassis as well. You could route the CLK OUT of the 6674T in the first chassis to the CLK IN of another 6674T in the second chassis. The 6674T in the second chassis could share this clock on the second chassis' backplane for the other modules in that chassis.
