Issue Details

When I launch NI VeriStand, I receive an error -307606: The file does not contain a valid file format as shown below:

What do I need to do to be able to launch NI VeriStand without this error?

Solution

This error occurs because Data Environment Settings.xml has become unreadable; either the file is corrupt or blank.

To resolve the error with NI VeriStand closed, delete the Data Environment Settings.xml and launch NI VeriStand. The Data Environment Settings.xml will be automatically regenerated.

The Data Environment Settings.xml is located at:

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\<NI VeriStand>\Environment Settings\Data Storage\Data Environment Settings.xml

Windows 7,8,10: C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\<NI VeriStand>\Environment Settings\Data Storage\Data Environment Settings.xml

Note: ProgramData could be hidden. If you can't see the folder modify the folder view option

Additional Information

When the NI VeriStand splash screen appears, NI VeriStand parses the Data Environment Settings.xml file to display the necessary information (such as recent projects) for the Getting Started Window.
