Issue Details

When I launch VeriStand, I receive error -307606, which says:

The file does not contain a valid file format.

What do I need to do to be able to launch VeriStand without this error?

Solution

This error occurs because Data Environment Settings.xml has become unreadable; either the file is corrupt or blank.

To resolve the error, follow these steps:

  1. Close VeriStand.
  2. Delete the Data Environment Settings.xml, located in one of the following places:
    • On Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\<NI VeriStand>\Environment Settings\Data Storage\Data Environment Settings.xml
    • On Windows 7, 8, or 10: C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\<NI VeriStand>\Environment Settings\Data Storage\Data Environment Settings.xml
  3. Launch VeriStand. The Data Environment Settings.xml will be automatically regenerated.
    • If this fails and Data Environment Settings.xml is not automatically created when launching VeriStand you may also copy the file from a different working system.

Note: ProgramData could be hidden. If you can't see the folder, modify the folder view option.

Additional Information

When the NI VeriStand splash screen appears, NI VeriStand parses the Data Environment Settings.xml file to display the necessary information (such as recent projects) for the Getting Started Window.
