Issue Details

  • I want to clone an asset so that I do not have to make one from scratch.  How can I clone an asset in the web application?
  • There was a Clone button for assets in InsightCM 3.0 and 3.1, but I do not see one for InsightCM 3.2.  Is it still possible to clone assets?

Solution

NI InsightCM™ 3.0 and 3.1

  1. Go to Asset Definitions.
  2. Select your asset and then click on the Clone button.
  3. Give your new asset a name.

NI InsightCM™ 3.2

  1. Open up a command prompt (cmd.exe) with administrative permissions.
  2. In the command prompt, navigate to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\InsightCM Server 3.0 using the cd command.  (i.e. cd "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\InsightCM Server 3.0")
  3. In the command prompt, type in InsightCMConsole.exe exportdefinition -t asset -n Accelerometer -o c:\users\public\caccel.json and press <Enter>
If you use a path other than c:\users\public\caccel.json you will need to match that path in step 6.
  4. Open the .json file we just created in step 3 using notepad or another text editing tool.
  5. Modify the value associated with Type to create the name for your cloned asset.  In the image below, we changed the value associated with Type to be Custom Accelerometer
  6. In the command prompt, type in InsightCMConsole.exe importdefinition -t asset -f c:\users\public\caccel.json and press <Enter>.  Make sure the file path is the same as what you used in step 3 if you did not use c:\users\public\caccel.json .
  7. Hard reload/refresh the web application and the asset you just cloned should be available and visible. (In Google Chrome, you can hard reload by holding down <Ctrl> and left-clicking the reload button or by holding down <Ctrl> and press <F5>.)
