GPIB-RS232 Device Does Not Show Up in NI MAX

Issue Details

  • I am trying to use an NI GPIB-RS232 as a GPIB controller. I have connected the device to my computer and can communicate with the connected GPIB device using the GPIB-Serial Device Wizard. However, my GPIB-RS232 converter and the connected device are not showing up in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). Is this expected?
  • Is there a configuration mode for the GPIB-RS232 device that will allow the device to appear in NI MAX and have the ability to scan for instruments?

Solution

The GPIB-RS232 converter does not show up in NI MAX. This is true for any configuration mode of the device.

Unlike other devices that interface with GPIB, such as GPIB-USB-HS devices, the GPIB-RS232 converter does not require the 488.2 driver, and therefore does not have access to the features of that driver, such as 'Scan for Instruments.'
