Issue Details

  • I installed the NI Software for FRC software, but when I open LabVIEW, I see the the default LabVIEW screen and not the FRC start screen. The options I see are 'Create Project' and 'Open Existing,' but I am looking for Tutorials and the FRC roboRIO project. How can I get the normal FRC splash screen?
  • I do not see the WPIlib functions in the palette, FRC VIs are missing, and I cannot find where to create an FRC roboRIO Project in LabVIEW.

I see the following screen:

I don't see the LabVIEW FRC screen, with the Projects, Tutorials, Utilities, and Support.

Solution

After installing the NI Software for FRC, you must then install the FRC Game Tools (formerly the FRC Update Suite). Once you install the FRC Update Suite and restart the computer, you should see the LabVIEW FRC screen when starting LabVIEW and the WPIlib functions (WPI Library) in the palettes.

This season's FRC Software and FRC Game Tools are available on the NI FRC Community Page.

If you have already installed the Game Tools and they do not show up, please uninstall them using the NI Package Manager and reinstall them.

Additional Information

  • The FRC Software Package will use a version of LabVIEW from the previous year. For instance, FRC 2018 is built using LabVIEW 2017. Seeing LabVIEW 2017 in any of the documentation or on the splash screen is not an indication that you have outdated software.
  • FRC 2022 is an exception, which uses LabVIEW 2020 SP1.
  • Always use the downloads located in ni.com/frc instead of the regular LabVIEW download page. The FRC-specific packages contain additional toolkits and modules required to work with the hardware and software used in the FIRST Robotics Competition.
