Which Slot, out of PCIe x2, x4, x8 or x16 slot of Computer Mother Board, Would Provide Maximum Bandwidth for PCIe 6612?

To get the maximum bandwidth and data rate, in which slot should I connect PCIe 6612 on my computer mother board ? I understand that ideally this should be connected to x1 slot of the same generation. But I wanted to know what difference does this make if i connect this card to x4, x8 or x16 ?

Solution

NI PCIe 6612 has x1 Form Factor and maximum bandwidth for x1 configuration (Gen 1) is 250MB/s. It doesn't change if you put  x1 card in x2, x4, or x16.

With PCI Express, data is sent serially through pairs of transmit and receive connections called lanes, which give data the ability transfer at 250 MB/s per direction. Multiple lanes can be grouped together into x1 (“by-one”), x2, x4, x8, x12, x16, and x32 links to increase bandwidth to the slot. For example, a x16 slot would have bandwidth of 4 GB/s per direction (250 MB/s * 16).

Though different lane widths correspond to different physical slot sizes in PCI Express slots and connections do not differ physically based on the lane width of the link.
