Issue Details

  • Which devices can I use with LabVIEW FPGA?
  • Can any Xilinx FPGA chip be programmed with LabVIEW FPGA?
  • Which are the hardware or chipsets that are supported by LabVIEW FPGA?
  • Can I program a third-party FPGA device with the LabVIEW FPGA module?
  • Is it possible for me to export either VHDL or Verilog code from LabVIEW FPGA to compile and deploy the bitfile to 3rd party or custom hardware?
  • Can I program a third-party CPLD with LabVIEW FPGA?

Solution

Using LabVIEW FPGA Module

  • The LabVIEW FPGA Module is designed to compile bitfiles exclusively for NI RIO (reconfigurable I/O) hardware.
  • Stand-alone (non-NI) Xilinx FPGA circuits cannot be programmed in LabVIEW FPGA.
  • You cannot access the VHDL files generated in the compilation process.

Using LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility

In 2020, NI released the LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility, which allows users to export FPGA code from LabVIEW to VDHL code. You can then use this VHDL code on any Xilinx Vivado FPGA device of the same family. See the LabVIEW 2020 FPGA IP Export Utility Readme for more information about compatibility and System Requirements.

Additional Information

The LabVIEW FPGA Module is designed to help you develop FPGA applications for NI reconfigurable I/O (RIO) hardware targets. These include:
