NI MAX Prompts for Microsoft Silverlight Install When It Is Already Installed

Updated Jan 4, 2019

Reported In

  • Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)

  • Microsoft Silverlight

Issue Details

  • I have downloaded and installed Microsoft Silverlight; however when I open Measurement & Automation Explorer, I see an image that says I need to install Microsoft Silverlight.  When I click on the link to install Silverlight from within Measurement & Automation Explorer I receive a notification stating Unable to Install Silverlight and The same version of Silverlight is already installed.
  • I have a Remote System that has been up and running for some time. Now, when I try to access the Network Settings tab of my cRIO or Real-Time PXI Controller in MAX, I am prompted to install Microsoft Silverlight. When I follow the download link, I receive a dialog box that I already have Microsoft Silverlight installed.

Is there a way to make Measurement & Automation Explorer recognize that Silverlight is installed?

The Silverlight view in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) is an ActiveX control and will be affected by the Internet Explorer security settings on your computer.  In order to allow MAX to recognize Silverlight, the Run ActiveX Controls and Plug-Ins setting must be enabled (see Figure 2, below).  These settings can be accessed by following the steps below.
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click on the Tools menu
  3. Select Internet Options
  4. Select the Security tab
  5. Press the Custom Level... button
  6. Select the Enable radio button under the Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins heading

If this does not work, uninstall and re-install Microsoft Silverlight. After re-installing Microsoft Silverlight, follow the steps above.
