NI Software Starting Slowly

Issue Details

I am trying to launch my NI software and noticed that it's taking over a minute to launch. Why is my software starting so slowly?

Solution

There are a few reasons that you may be encountering this behavior.
  1. If you are using a network license, you may see a message box like the one below.



    ​If this is the case, your computer may be having trouble connecting to the license server​. You can either avoid querying licenses you're not using or work using a temporary disconnected license by performing the following steps:​​
    • NI License Manager 3.1 and older:
      1. ​​Open NI License Manager
      2. Go to Options » Preferences
      3. Uncheck the option for Use Volume License Servers as shown in the image below

    • NI License Manager 4.0:
      1. ​​Open NI License Manager
      2. Go to File » Manage Volume License Servers...
      3. Remove any server names from this window as shown in the image below​

        ​​Note: You should save the name of the server in a known location for when you want to reconfigure the network license. By removing this server name, you are unconfiguring the server in NI License Manager and temporarily unlicensing your network-licensed products.

  2. If launching your NI Software immediately after startup, your computer may be processing other startup tasks that are using computer resources. Try waiting a couple of minutes after startup, then launching your NI software.
  3. If you are using DIAdem, try following the steps outlined in DIAdem Starting Slowly.
