Issue Details

  • The NI Configuration Export File (.nce) file I created on another computer in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) does not properly import onto my new computer. Additionally, I can't import any other file types such as .ini and .txt files in NI MAX. What can I do to fix this?
  • When I go to import the NI Configuration Export File (.nce) exported from another computer, I get an error 0x80004005 preventing me from importing the files. What should I do?

Solution

This issue can be caused when NI MAX or any driver has been corrupted on your computer, or the installation did not go well. Try performing the following steps listed below:

  • Make sure that you have all the drivers installed according to the hardware used in the configuration file. For example, if the configuration file has a PXIe-6341, NI-DAQmx should be installed. If the driver is not installed you will get an error when you import a .txt or .nce file with DAQ hardware.
  • Reset the NI MAX Database File
  • In case there is a corrupt driver, try a force reinstall or uninstall  and install the driver again. It is common to see this error when the NI-DAQmx installation has been corrupted.
  • If the configuration file has devices that require different drivers (for example a DAQ device and a DMM), try to import a simple configuration file with only one device, to check which driver could be corrupted and narrow down the issue to the most simple scenario.
  • You can force reinstall NI-MAX or NI-System Configuration.
Note: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, reach out to NI Technical Support. You can also uninstall it and install NI-MAX again, however, this will likely remove all the NI software because of the dependencies between NI-MAX and the drivers, so it is not recommended to do this until the issue has been narrowed down properly.
