Issue Details

I need to install NI Software through NI Package Manager. I was able to download and install NI Package Manager from NI's website. However, when I try to install the software, I get the error:

There was a problem executing your request.
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Please check your Internet connection and try again.
 

 

Solution

There are multiple ways that this error can appear:
  1. Your antivirus software threat protection feature could accidentally intervene with the installation process. Disable this functionality and try to reinstall.
  2. If using NI Package Manager 20.5 or previous, note that this error is the generic "default" error for an unparsed error. Package Manager 21.0 now reports the underlying error. Check whether upgrading to NI Package Manager 21.0 or above gives a more descriptive error.
  3. This error can also occur if you are trying to install a package using NI Package Manager on a computer that has Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) encryption enabled. FIPS is an encryption algorithm that can be enabled in the Windows Operating System. NI recommends contacting your IT department before disabling FIPS.

Additional Information

FIPS can also cause some programs, like DAQExpress, to not run if installed. 

To change FIPS mode for a specific network you are connected to, perform the following steps
  1. Open Windows Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to Network and Internet » View network status and tasks.
  3. Click Change adapter settings.
  4. Right-click the wireless network you want to change the FIPS mode for and click Status.
  5. Click Wireless Properties.
  6. Go to the Security tab.
  7. Click Advanced settings.
  8. Toggle the option Enable Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance for this network.
  9. Close all open dialog windows confirming the changes if asked for.
