Issue Details

When I open VeriStand 2014, the application freezes and crashes in roughly 1-10 seconds. I can open an existing project directly from Windows Explorer and VeriStand does not crash. When I close the project, VeriStand returns to the Getting Started screen and crashes.

There is a known issue with the RSS News Feed in the VeriStand Getting Started window. This can be turned off by editing the Getting Started Window's VeriStand source XML.
  1. Close out of VeriStand.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following directory: C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\NI VeriStand 2014\Environment Settings\Data Storage
  3. Find the file Data Environment Settings.xml and open this file.
    • Using a text editor like Notepad++ formats the XML better than the stock Windows Notepad.
  4. At the bottom of the XML, there’s a section called Getting Started Window. Replace the original text with the modified text.
<Section Name="Getting Started Window" TypeGUID="08615c09-255a-4831-b767-702385759fdd">

  1. Open VeriStand and see if the crash still occurs.

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, see Fix Corrupt or Non-Working NI Software with Force Reinstall to reinstall VeriStand.
