Issue Details

I can see my cDAQ9185/9189 in NI MAX when I have it directly connected to my computer via a crossover cable, but not when I have it connected over the network. Is there something blocking it?

Solution

Your cDAQ may not be able to be seen because it is TSN (Time Sensitive Network) enabled. TSN uses the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) to create a loopless network, which is not compatible with some network settings.

There is no way to disable RSTP in the TSN enabled cDAQ chassis. You may be able to configure your network devices differently to enable communication; for example, disabling Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDU) guard will enable RSTP devices to work correctly.

If it is not possible to configure your network differently, you could consider non-TSN cDAQ chassis such as the cDAQ-9184 or cDAQ-9188.

Additional Information

Since the TSN cDAQ chassis have two network ports on them, it would be possible to create a network loop. RSTP is implemented on these devices to keep such a loop from disrupting the network.

If you receive Error -201401 when trying to add modules in NI MAX, follow the steps in NI-MAX Error -201401: Retrieving Properties from the Network Device Failed .
