Issue Details

My Imaging Source DFK 24UJ003 USB3 Vision compatible camera disconnects from my computer after I use it with NI Vision for a certain amount of time. The camera works flawlessly for hours or even days when suddenly it disappears from NI MAX and Windows Device Manager.



This issue can be traced back to Windows' USB Power Management. To prevent Windows shutting down your USB devices to save power go to Device Manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch, then double click the USB Root Hub device and choose the Power Management tab. Turn off the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power by unchecking the box then click the OK button. Repeat the step on each USB root hub or do it only for USB ports that you want to be permanently powered on.  

Also make sure to install and use the most recent Drivers for your camera provided by the manufacturer, since they may help to maintain the proper connection between Windows and the camera as the operating system gets updated from time to time!
