NI MAX Error: Execution of External Command, Script or Application Failed

Issue Details

You are seeing  Execution of External Command, Script or Application Failed error  on NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (NI MAX)  while you're trying to:

  • Upgrade the software or driver versions on your Real-Time (RT) Target
  • Install new software on your RT Target

Solution

This error could be resolved by following the procedures listed below:

  •  Power cycle the RT Target or reset your device (pressing the reset button in your RT target, if available).
  •  Verify that the firewall allows the usage of the following UDP/TCP ports: 44515, 44525, 44516.
  • Verify that your Antivirus is not blocking the download of the software, if possible turn it off.
  • Connect the device in a different way (switching Ethernet to USB if supported, or using a new Ethernet/USB cable).
  • If you have an identical RT device that is working correctly, you can replicate its image and use it to deploy your RT Target which is not working.
  • If you have followed all the procedures and the problem still persists, try to connect your RT Target to another PC, and try to install the software again.
  • As a last resource, try formatting and reinstalling the software again.
