Issue Details

I am using an EtherCAT 914x chassis and am trying to use a C Series module, but when I try to add it to my project, I get the error:

This C Series module is not supported by the current version of NI-Industrial Communications for EtherCAT.

Why am I seeing this error?

C Series support for the NI 9144 EtherCAT slave chassis varies among different versions of the NI-Industrial Communications for EtherCAT driver when using Scan Mode.

Additional C Series module support has been added to newer revisions of the driver. Therefore, certain C Series modules are only supported by newer version(s) of the driver. National Instruments recommends always upgrading to the newest version of the driver whenever possible.

C Series support for the latest driver can be found in the NI C Series Module Compatibility Chart. Also refer to the Readme of the most recent version of the NI-Industrial Communications for EtherCAT driver to find when the support for a certain module was added. Use this information to determine if your module is supported for the specific version of the driver you are using.

If the driver version you are using supports your module and you still cannot add your module under your NI 9144 chassis, confirm that the driver version you are using is compatible with the version of NI-RIO you are using according to NI-Industrial Communications for EtherCAT and NI-RIO Compatibility

After all of these steps, there is still possibility, that you'll see the same message, that the module is not supported. Especially with the newer C Series modules. This is caused by older firmware on your EtherCAT chassis. To upgrade firmware on EtherCAT chassis, follow steps on page 15 of NI 9144 User Manual and Specifications. After the upgrade, you should see your module without any error messages. At the same time you may not see your module in NI Distributed System Manager. Restart of your machines will solve that issue.
