Issue Details

I am receiving the following error when I try to connect my instrument in the Digital Pattern Editor.

This occurs upon launch of the Digital Pattern Editor, after trying to "Create New Session" or when going to Instrument >> Connect.

Solution

Common causes of this error:

1. The name of the instrument in the Digital Pattern Editor (DPE), Pin Map does not Match the name of the instrument in NI MAX. To resolve this change the name of the instrument in NI MAX to match the instrument name in the Digital Pattern Editor Pin Map or vice versa. An example of this is shown below.

Figure 1: Pin Map in DPE

Figure 2: Name of Instrument in NI MAX (Mismatched)

Figure 3: Name of Instrument in NI MAX (Changed to Match DPE)

After renaming the device make sure to save NI MAX to update the name officially in software by hitting the "Save" button.

2. Not having the physical instruments to match the instruments defined in the Pin Map. Taking a closer look at Figure 1, you will notice that it calls out both a Digital Pattern and DCPower Instrument. The same error will occur if you only have one of the devices installed. For example if you only have a DC Power Instrument installed and no Digital Pattern Instrument in your PXIe chassis then you will get the error above. You can resolve the error by deleting the Digital Pattern Instrument or by installing the Digital Pattern Instrument into the PXIe chassis.
