  • NI License Manager 4.0
  • Volume License Manager

Issue Details

I am trying to install a disconnected license file in NI License Manager 4.0 or later. When I try to install it, I get the the following error message:

NI License Manager was unable to install the license file.

Solution

  1. Verify that you are using a disconnected license using Getting Started with NI VLM - Creating a Disconnected or Home License  (make sure you Apply Changes before you generate the license file).
  2. If you are using a disconnected license file, rename the license file.
  3. Reinstall the license file using NI License Manager.
Additionally, if your software admin's PC has any sort of always-on encryption like Sophos, turn it off while creating a disconnected license.

Note: If you are using a license file for the Volume License Server. You will need to install the license file in NI Volume License Manager

If this still does not address the issue, it may be that you are logged in as the incorrect user for a named disconnected license (for example, the administrator username is logged in instead of the end user tied to the license file). Ensure that you are logged into the machine under the correct username in order to license the products and activate the software.
