MAX Database Connection Error When Using NOD32 Anti-Virus Software

Updated Jan 8, 2019

Reported In

Software

  • Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX)

Other

  • NOD32 Anti-Virus software

Issue Details

There is a MAX Database Connection Error in NI-MAX(Measurement and Automation Explorer), and I have NOD32 Anti-Virus software.

Solution

To solve the problem, make sure that the port 3580 is NOT in the list of ports and follow these steps below.
  1. Open NOD32 Anti-Virus software and select IMON Setup
  2. Select HTTP cloumn and disable Automatically detect HTTP communication on other ports, cause the NI-MAX uses the NI Service Locator to locate the service that controls the NI-MAX database. The NI Service Locator uses the HTTP protocol to find the service, however this is blocked by the NOD32 Anti-Virus software. This feature of the NOD32 anti-virus software can be disabled in the IMON Setup of NOD32. After disable Automatically detect HTTP communication on other ports, it will not see the NI Service Locator communication on port 3580, and thus will not disrupt it.

Additional Information

The root cause of this problem is The Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) uses the NI Service Locator to locate the service that controls the MAX database. The NI Service Locator uses the HTTP protocol to find the service, however this is blocked by the NOD32 anti-virus software. This feature of the NOD32 anti-virus software can be disabled in the IMON Setup of NOD32.
