Triggering PXIe-5170R using PXI Backplane Without LabVIEW FPGA Code Development

Issue Details

I would like to use a trigger signal from an external device routed from PXI backplane trigger bus to PXIe-5170R without developing FPGA code.

Solution

The NI-5170R/5171R help file shows the available trigger sources of NI-Scope. The trigger sources of NI-5170/5171R are PXI Trig (RTSI) <0...7>.

You need to download Instrument Design Library for Reconfigurable Oscilloscopes driver first if you want to use the trigger without modifying the FPGA code.
LabVIEW comes with a shipping example Stream To Host (NI PXIe-5170R/5171R) in which you can make use of the default bit file. You can open this example from Create Project window.

The default FPGA bit file uses the PXI_TRIG[0] as the trigger line, which corresponds to RTSI_0 line.
If you do not want to modify the FPGA bit file, you can route the trigger signal to the PXI_TRIG[0] (RTSI_0) line. Then configure the trigger source of niScope Trigger Digital.vi to RTSI_0.
